Our Services
Epilepsy affects over 60,000 children and young people in the UK. Most epilepsy can be controlled through medication but for about 10% of children, epilepsy can bring learning, communication and social difficulties.
For a small proportion, severe epilepsy can be a life shattering condition, resulting in profound emotional, social and intellectual problems as well as physical disabilities.
The National Centre for Young People with Epilepsy (NCYPE) is the UK's major provider of specialist education, treatment and support to children and young people with epilepsy.
Whether a young person has just been diagnosed or has had epilepsy for years, whether they attend mainstream school or college, or need a special school placement, we can help.
We offer:
- a residential special school and further education college which both deliver high quality learning as well as 24 hour home-from-home care
- a range of diagnostic, assessment and rehabilitation services including video telemetry, Electroencephalograph (EEG) monitoring and multidisciplinary outreach packages to help any young person with epilepsy manage their condition
- a Childhood Epilepsy Information Service which provides training and support for professional, parents and young people themselves including a Childhood Epilepsy helpline Mon-Fri 9am-1pm on 01342 831342
We bring together specialist teams of doctors, teachers, nurses, psychologists, therapists and support staff. Our teams ensure that the children and young people in our care, including those attending mainstream school who come for a short stay in our assessment and rehabilitation unit, receive first rate education, treatment and support.
