Working with Partners
As well as spearheading our own Better Futures Campaign to improve education and health services for children and young people with epilepsy, the NCYPE also works with other charities and organisations to press for change.
We belong to the Joint Epilepsy Council of 26 epilepsy charities, pressing the government, parliamentarians and key policymakers for better epilepsy services. Please see www.jointepilepsycouncil.org.uk for more information.
Earlier this year the NCYPE joined an alliance of over 30 charities campaigning for pupils with long term health conditions to be better accommodated at school.

The alliance supported the Private Members’ Bill put forward by Jim Cunningham MP in May 2009.
In addition, with Diabetes UK and Asthma UK, the NCYPE campaigned at the three main political party conferences by holding fringe meetings on the way schools deal with children and teenagers with long term health conditions.
We are calling for:
- schools to have a statutory responsibility to support the health and well-being of children with medical needs
- all schools to produce and implement medical condition policies as part of their duty to promote pupil well-being
- inclusion of school support for health conditions – and outcomes for pupils with health conditions
In Ofsted inspections:
- appropriate support and training for school staff
- adequate provision of school nurses
- robust collection of data on the number of children with health conditions
