Preparation is well advanced for the parents and families conference about Childhood Epilepsy to be held on Saturday 11th October 2008 at the Mercure Hotel, Gatwick, Surrey.
We are delighted that a number of exhibitors have confirmed they will be attending our conference. They include Epilepsy Action, Contact a Family, Matthew’s Friends, Department for Work and Pensions, Connexions, South East Area Epilepsy Specialist Nurses Association, Epilepsy Bereaved, and Epilepsy Research UK. Information from other organisations such as Cerebra, Sibs, Parentline Plus and the National Society for Epilepsy will also be available.
We have an exciting day planned and you will have an opportunity to hear from Dr Sarah Aylett about developments in childhood epilepsy and a keynote speech from June Massey about Epilepsy and Education. YouthHealthTalk will be present to share their findings about what young people have to say about living with epilepsy and 2 parents will be sharing their stories with us. As will as this, you have a choice of 8 workshops to attend covering a wide range of topics from medical to educational, support to benefits and transition to psychology.
Specialists from the National Centre for Young People with Epilepsy will be available to answer your questions.
This first conference to be hosted by The NCYPE is aimed at parents and families with children who have epilepsy and attend mainstream schools. Young people aged 12 and above are welcome to attend and take part in the conference. We are already planning our next conference which will be held in 2009 and will look at issues connected with Complex Childhood Epilepsy.
