Assessment Services
|
In 1997 The National Centre for Young People with Epilepsy launched its Assessment Service in collaboration with Great Ormond Street Hospital to provide an assessment service for young people with epilepsy. The service, based at the NCYPE campus in Lingfield, is provided for children over the age of 3 up to 19. Packages are developed to meet individual needs.
The aim of the service is to provide a multidisciplinary assessment of children with epilepsy and provide recommendations to professionals as to how their needs can best be met.
The assessment service also provides an outreach component, with a visit by the epilepsy nurse specialist prior to and after the assessment.
These young people require expert support and an holistic approach from a multi-disciplinary team; to ensure that future programmes of treatment and educational choices are made on the basis of detailed evaluation and understanding of their difficulties.
Service pathway: (open to all children up to 19)
- Referral by a Paediatrician and / or GP
- Initial out-patient appointment arranged
- Outreach visit arranged when appropriate
- Overnight pre-admission visit
- Admission for assessment / rehabilitation
- Outreach follow up
