Play Therapy

Play TherapyPlay is an essential part of any child's life and education and helps to lay the foundations for learning experiences. Play takes on even greater importance if the child is ill or has special needs.

The role of the Play Specialists at the NCYPE is diverse and there is a great demand for their assistance in helping the students to attain appropriate levels of independence.

Developmental Play in individual or group sessions encourages students to develop and extend their play and social communication skills. They are encouraged to establish interaction with adults, discover and explore new ideas, use their imagination and interact socially with their peers.

Preparation and Post-Procedural Play prior to and after medical or surgical intervention helps the students to make sense of what is happening to them through specific activities such as role-play, video and play with realistic hospital equipment.

Epilepsy Awareness through group or individual play enables the students to understand about their condition in an interesting and stimulating way.

The Toy and Leisure Library provides a valuable resource and is well equipped with leisure activities for use by students across site. It provides a relaxed atmosphere where students can play and choose activities in their own time.
