Electroencephalogram
The EEG is a non-invasive and painless test for recording electrical activity from the brain. It is the principal investigation used in the assessment and management of epilepsy. Most individuals with a diagnosis of epilepsy will have had at least one EEG in their lifetime. At NCYPE we have a our own team who are able to offer routine and ambulatory EEGs as well as video EEG telemetry.
- A routine EEG can be useful for anyone with a diagnosis or suspected diagnosis of epilepsy
- An ambulatory recording involves having electrodes attached on the head to a small recorder, which is worn around the waist. The recording can be prolonged and allows for sleep to occur in the normal environment and typical day to day activities to continue
- Video telemetry is continuous video monitoring time-locked to the on-going EEG recording
All of the above help our specialists to give a more accurate diagnosis of seizure types and syndrome diagnosis.
