Admissions

The Admissions Office receives and manages all enquiries about admissions to the school. Each enquiry is followed up with the offer of an informal visit.

The visit usually spans two and a half hours beginning with a tour of the school, a student house (if a residential placement is being sought) and the Medical Centre. The tour will be conducted by senior members of the school and Care departments.

Upon receipt of a formal application from the agency or individual responsible for funding the placement, the application is reviewed and, if appropriate a placement visit is arranged.

An outreach visit may also be arranged.

The placement visit varies in length from 2 to 4 days and includes overnight stays for young people referred for residential placements. Following the visit, the NCYPE produces a written multi-disciplinary assessment of the prospective student's needs with recommendations concerning the level of staff, and non-staff input, required to support the student's placement.

Wherever possible, the parents and student are advised of the panel's decision on the day the Placement Visit ends, however if this is not possible within 2 weeks following the placement visit. The decision is communicated in writing to the Referring Agency and the parents.

If placement is agreed, every effort is made to accommodate the student as promptly as possible.
